Research vs manufacture time

I think that research should be slowed down somewhat in large galaxies. Especially in the mid -> late game the techs seem to just fly by at an accelerated pace, without ever making much of an impact before it is replaced.

It should be possible to introduce an overall slowdown through the advanced settings.

I agree, and it is something that is being addressed, but still needs addressing further in the mid-late game. I like new techs to feel like an achievement, if you get them every 1-3 turns you don't notice them as much.

OTOH, I win most games before I reach the end of the tech tree, simply by overproducing a zerg fleet. Fast high tech is needed to counter these zerg strategies and make scientific "hi-fi" civilisations viable. Difficult to balance, I guess.
