Thought I would share a great little tactic I have found for taking out Outposts and Planetary Defences. The AI hardly ever has torpedos, but torpedos have the longest range from what I can tell. I load my cruiser with Proton Torpedos, sit just on the cusp of firing range, using the new accelerator function to stop the cruiser dead in space. Then watch it take out the target, speed up to 8X if it is taking a bit long. I have been able to win combats listed as unfavorable and bad this way.
