Feedback about Ground Combat

Lionknight1971's Photo Lionknight1971 04 Mar 2016

Could you please make ground invasion animations like MOO2. It would be fantastic to see my troops firing enemy troops with rifles. In current status we see only number decreasing and it is boring.

Thank you in advance for your attention.

I just wish i didnt have to have all the troop ships expended when i invade :/ found out the hard way when i had built up a massive invasion fleet only to have all 80 troops land on the first planet I invade

Actually I would love to see

a) ground combat beiing part of spacecombat

b) having groundcombat options

c) last groundcombat on bigger planets longer than one turn.

d) instead of troop transports I would like to have a Groundtrooper Module that can be refilled at your own planets with marines.

and of course see the combat...

If you could controll the ground forces when invading troops that would be awsome. A great tactician would then be able to defend a planet from a hostile invasion. Maybe ground troops also could get experience and you could costumize their equipment.

The best way to add more feeling to that of an invasion is to add

- Territories to planets per Population or per Marine Defence Force on the planet, Territories that are vacant can be occupied automatically as 'Strongholds', unless invading force moves to hold new territory. Any population held in a Stronghold is treated as captured Pop (like assimilation rule).

 - Bombardment of Territories with Emeny Marines/Battleloids/Pop is left to player descretion, but can aid in moving to the next front or winning the planet.

 - Animation upon landing troops could be similar to Starship Troopers invasion of Klandathu (I say similar, but depending on the forces and scale)

 - Ground Batteries....right, These NEED to be planet based weapons to damage ships during bombardment and destroy troop transports during an invasion (hence Starship Troopers). Having Ground Batteries orbit the planet as defence is counter intuative and they might aswell be called Orbit Defence Cannons...or Something. These are a building that can be destroyed while bombarding, but either fire at the ship for every bomb dropped OR every turn the ship is in orbit. Automated Repair does not work until the ship is 'Out of Combat'.

A single Ground Battery is built in every territory and adds to the firepower defence against trooptransports trying to land and ships in orbit (selection option for defending player to attack either trooptransports or orbiting ships).

 - Actual Gameplay animations of the troops in combat should be kept to a minimalistic approach. Almost exactly like Moo2 but more fleshed out (I still want to see one of my guys take out an army like rambo).

 - The gameplay could be improved (I'll hold my breath for suggesting this) have a defend button, push button and a special selection for territories pushing into one Front or defending from another an 'Ambush' or 'Flank' button. Any reserves not defending or Pushing the lines get a Counter Attack Button from the Flanking invaders.

 - This will utilize the territories to have tactical advantages. There could even be a Home Turf Bonus, Uber Planet Bonus, Natural Environment Bonus, plus Heavy/Low G, Racial and Tech Bonuses for tactical gameplay.

It sounds like a massive chore to try this kind of gameplay, the Terriorties could be 3 Regions on a Small planet, 5 on a Medium, 7 Large, 9 Huge.

- I would also like to see Moons be used as more than just Research +2 or ship cost reduction. I dont see why Moons cannot be used to house at least 1 Pop or in case of a huge planet with a large moon 2 Pop. Moons counting as a single Territory with a ground battery added when build on world.

Again this would be a massive undertaking, but it would stick it to those who keep whining. I like what I have played so far except - Starlanes have to GO. They make no sense when I have to travel further away from a system through another system just to reach the one I want to visit.
