Purifying a planet from enemy race

Dragnir666's Photo Dragnir666 29 Feb 2016

So here it goes, I'll copy that one over from the steam discussions for anyone who is interested.

One player mentioned, once he conquered an enemy planet, he would like to get rid of the enemy population, as they are kind of..unhappy :) with the new ruler.

Here's the solution to that (and I was amazed how smooth that worked!).

Bring ships with biological bombs (death spores, bio terminator) and bomb the planet. Those bombs will ONLY damage marines, population, any lifeform, but won't scratch any existing buildings:

Send in the marines after:

Now, you will own the planet, but it won't grow because there is no population left. zero. nada.

you can't produce, you can't grow, you can't build, you can't anything. I tried with a colony ship, but of course didn't work as you already own the planet.

Solution: Send in civilian transports with your own peeps, 3-4 will do.

Now you got the planet conquered, secured all enemy buildings and settled it with your own population :-)

In fact I don't like the idea of killing a whole planet and there should be a harsh diplomatic penalty for this... even from races that are your allies. There may be races that have no problem with that (Meklars, Silicoid)  but from all other races I would expect that they break the trade treaty or other established channels.

I like that idea, of diplomatic penalties, and ruthless races who lack respect for living creatures. But i probbably would rather want to make it a part of political agenda which would be able to introduce moral codex in game. Also a refugee mechanic would be a nice addition.  Just imagine taking your whole population off the planet and burning it to make it baren. That would be such an In yo face move.

well the description says the use of biological weapons is not easily taken by the AI and they will probably no longer want diplomatic contacts with you.

But what about the stellar converter with planets going "poof"  ?

Question is what about dropping nukes on civilians and any other form of killing the population.

I think Stellar Converter is the best option and it is most humanitarian weapon.

When used on planet, the population doesn't suffer as during nuclear bombardment or because of use of biological weapons. It just vaporize.

Second good thing is that, the planet is also gone, which means nobody will colonize it again and you don't have to go back and conquer it again.

However I think Stellar Converter should be possible to use only after wiping out planetary defence - including starbase, missile base, etc.

i guess this'll be basic Darlok strategy then   - bio everything till they are goop -  then move in and see if the furniture fits you
